Performance data for Seed Interactive comes from annual trials conducted in Manitoba by the Manitoba Crop Variety Evaluation Team (MCVET). Most of the data is for yield, but protein, days to maturity, test weight, and other data is included if available.
The performance data comes from small plot trials grown annually at sites located around Manitoba. MCVET’s core crops include wheat (spring & winter), barley, oats, field peas and flax. MCVET also assists Manitoba commodity organizations in testing fababeans, field beans, sunflowers, soybeans, and lentils. The number of trials and the specific locations depend on the crop – for some crops testing occurs at up to 14 sites annually, while others at only a few sites. Not all varieties are tested in all years.
Variety Characteristics/attribute data, including maturity, height, test weight, % hull, seed size, oil content, lodging resistance, and resistance level to particular diseases, is obtained from the Co-operative Registration Trials.
MCVET - Manitoba Crop Variety Evaluation Team – is responsible for managing Manitoba’s post registration variety testing program. The purpose of the MCVET is to provide Manitoba farmers with a third party information source for new varieties as they enter the market place.
